overdrawing: (Shrine of your life)

"Help!" he shouts, flailing toward the man on shore. But then he swears that the man sprouts wings and Gabe knows that it can't be real. He must be seeing things as he drowns, just like his own hands are no longer his own. Under the moonlight, Gabe tries to surge forward and escape to shore. His changed, inhuman body takes him along and he's not sure it's a good thing.

Maybe he's already dead. Maybe this change is Hell taking his body, damning him and warping Gabe into one of them as they drag him screaming into perdition.

But all he can think, again, is just help me. Gabe doesn't think he even knows anymore what that help means. The shore is far away and instinct can only take him so far when he's bogged down with soaked clothes and a complete inability to coordinate his limbs for even the most basic doggy paddle.

What's happening? What is his body doing?
